Hippies and soap lovers gathered in Tobacco Dock this week to explore cosmetic company Lush’s charity partnerships.

For those of you who are avid activists and environmental warriors, or are simply wanting to preview seasonal Lush products ahead of schedule, the annual Lush Summit is the place to be.

This event, like the company, embodies the positive trending consumer awareness that is increasingly popular among young people today. With for example, the number of vegans in the UK having increased by 360% in the last 10 years. It is fashionable to care about the environment and to wear safely sourced clothes and products; perhaps as a result of climate change in schools and the media. The boho/nomad/indie lifestyle is rife and though the line between dedication and appearances can be blurred, it’s a positive attitude that encourages organisations and businesses such as Lush to flourish.

The Summit ties all of this in together, providing the perfect environment to sell products, collect donations and bring awareness to important issues.

Performance actors, art work and book recommendations are also a few quirky spectacles to mention.

The summit is not just for the public but is also a great opportunity for charities and organisations. Lush also offers funding and support to causes. There is the The Lush Spring Prize 2017 , which will give a total of £200,000 to enterprises working towards anything from influencing government policy to creating their own agricultural projects for example.

A worker at a stall dedicated to investigating dog fighting, had said League Against Cruel Sports were extremely grateful for Lush lobbying for signatures for their issues in stores and hope from working with them at the Summit, they can further their partnership in the future.

10 years of the Lush Charity Pot is also being celebrated, a body lotion that 100% of profits go to charity, it’s made a total of £20 million so far, one of Lush’s incredibly generous schemes.

The Lush Summit is an event I stumbled on the day before, this goes to show how simple it is to try new things and explore your city for free. Don’t always plan! I think this event shows London has something to offer for everyone and it doesn’t have to break the bank. Keep up to date with event pages, invite friends and participate in some learning outside of University.
